740 Woes...

Post by petershen1984 »

You know your battery is due for replacement when:

you can't crank right after you turn off the car. At least I learned this the hard way... and it wasn't pleasant, turning off your car while waiting at a red zone, during rush hour traffic, and on the verge of being ticketed (at least, it was true I couldn't get the car started again). But by the time the patrol came, my car started right away, so they couldn't believe my stunt. :-) But, young as I am, I got away with it...

Even while the car is running, my 50W x4 CD player/radio LED dims out on every beat.

Haha.... I was gonna say I'm pretty sure my battery is old and flat - in fact, I've drained it a few times inadvently before. I know my alternator works because, I got away with leaving the peek lights on for a few hours; and after a jump start I drove home and was able to start the car the next day. I couldn't get away with it yesterday, though.. I guess I restarted the car too often to see if the compressor would kick back in -- and that really killed the battery.

Yes, I got paranoid about another A/C fault yesterday - turns out to be a relay from behind the fan control module. My refrigerant pressure was normal, thank god!

Motor wheel?

Anyway... i did have a bad alternator that was giving me less than 13 volts, and I paid a little for a 2nd-hand part....

When they disconnected the battery, I was surprised the engine still runs, although the tachometer read at maximum value (idle speed increased).

Do never ever disconnect the battery or alternator when the engine is running. Be lucky if you did not destroy anything.
