Key cut for a 1998 S70

Post by gbuchana »

I've misplaced one of the two keys I have for my 1998 S70 T5 SE (Canadian model).

The keys are "laser cut" ie: cut on a milling machine. I do not believe this model year had any fancy electronic BS in the keys, so I think I can have one cut for on the order of $40 or so by a competent locksmith with a "laser" milling machine.

Does this make sense? Anyone with direct experience what can or cannot be done with these keys? Are blanks hard to come by? I don't care if it's a Volvo branded blank.

Thanks.

You're right about it being a simple key. No electronics.
I got a second key at a Portland, Ore. dealer 4 or 5 years
ago for around 17 bucks US. Took about 10 minutes...

Yeah, but did you go to the dealer or just to a key place?

I only have one key for my car and I'm nervous about losing it.

Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.
