Inflation hits consumible goods harder than hard goods - if we have less to spend on Milk, we are going to bargain hard on used cars

V70R is what the 'R' stands for. Like all the AWD P80 models, many of the mechanical parts at the rear are NLA. R models also have unique parts that were only fitted to them which makes replacements even more impossible to find.

The car is in the back of beyond and has body as well as the mechanical issues. The other one that was for sale had a 'rough running' issue but was in better body condition and was not a rebuilt status. They were more realistic at $2200 CDN, but again the car had to be towed from where it was. It appears to have sold though.

I fell sorry for anyone buying these cars as most don't know what they are really buying in terms of maintenance. I was one of those people 10 years ago!

Most every (euro) maker designates a line of each car as a 'performace model' to get premium price.

In Volvo land its "R" for Race (I believe)

BMW does the blue red M thing for ....more Money

Toyota and Nissan just build the same car and call it a Lexus or Infinity

As I prefer the "lower technology" of pre '05, I keep an eye on those. Until about a year ago, they were all sub $2500, except for very rare examples. Now, $2500 is the starting price and most at that price list a number of needed repairs, "must be towed" etc. Just noticed a very low mileage '01 T5 at $2300, but the '01 transmission problems scare me.

I stopped by the dealership that has the '01 T5 today. Today the price was $3,000. I mentioned that earlier in the week it was $2300, "well OK, $2300 then"

Just another thought. As I mentioned in another post, I prefer the "lower technology" of the pre '05 cars, so I keep an eye for '04 and earlier cars. Until about a year ago, "R" models seemed rather scarce. When seen, they did command a slight premium, perhaps $1,000. I just scanned my local Facebook and there are three "R" models on offer. Roughly as follows, one with 260K, $7,000. another with 300K, $11,000, and one for about $4,000, that last one was basically in pieces. In the same time period, I have noticed a big increase in YouTube videos featuring the "R". I am wondering if those videos haven't convinced many that they have a pile of gold out behind the barn. While I see these offered, I don't seem to see them selling, meaning the ads last forever.

The Rs carry ridiculous ad prices that don’t sell

Two board members here just transacted a nice p2 deal here, with lower miles, at the 5k ish price point

I'm asking $4000 for my S60, which includes a bunch of new parts still in the boxes. Total of the parts I have, with the parts I've already put on the car, I've got over $4000 invested in it, not including the price I paid for the car. It runs and drives great, and is still my daily driver. Less than 184k miles, and no rust (which is surprising for Ohio).

You get what you pay for. I bought the car cheap, because it needed a lot of work to get running again, and now it's running great. If I was still able to work on it myself I'd keep it, but right now I'm physically not able to. I was hesitant to list it at the price, since I thought it was on the high side, and after adding up the cost of the parts I realized I'm still losing money on it at $4000.

I wouldn't pay $10,000+ for a car that needs work, unless it came with the parts to fix it and was rust free.

I see prices of cars I had when I was younger going for outrageous prices, and it makes me wish I still had them now. I think we can all relate to that, though. Who hasn't owned a car that's worth more now than it was when it was brand new?
