Agree completely, the rear seat area is basically a roomy, padded cargo shelf. There is no room back there for passengers except maybe a baby seat or toddler seat (never tried them).

I think all modern manufacturers do this to force you into their high-zoot full size cars, if you want to use the backseat for adults.

Quick survey here:
When was the last time you traveled over 25 miles with 4 adults in a car?
I do not remember, but likely before 2016.

Maybe a month or so ago. I was driving with mom in the passenger seat, and my dad and brother in the backseat. Round trip was close to 70 miles.

Never in the S60, obviously. It's just for me and my wife, or for one of us solo. Until she prevails in the push to sell it!

With three adults pretty frequently, two or three times a month on average with more in the warm months, less in the winter. Most recently was last week, 45 miles each way.

Four adults is less common for us, just a few times a year. Most recently was in mid-June.

With handcuffs on, and the plastic rear seat, they're not very comfortable.

Manual transmission, manual locks, hand crank windows, and only the seat belt as perfection. No ABS, no airbags, no backup cameras, sometimes not even a side mirror on the passenger side of the car. Once you learn how to drive a car like that you can drive anything, in any weather, and feel safe and confident.

Just my 2 cents.
Yes, that is why I knew enough to throw a couple of sandbags in the trunk of the BMW referenced above.
