FCP and any volvo dealer sells the turbo drain gasket and green O ring seal.. $9.Radar454 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2022, 05:13 Thanks all for the info and insights.
I watched several videos. Looks pretty straight forward. Of course on a near 20 year old car Murphy's Law always comes into play. On one video the guy didn't totally remove the drive shaft. Just at the angle gear.
I was planning on getting the Volvo collar kit. The car has over 200k on it. It comes with the coupler/collar , the seals and new bolts. Does ipd or fcp have the turbo return oil line gasket?
I noticed in Robert's video he used I believe some synthetic Valvoline gear oil. I will change the oil out. I wonder what the spec is on the Volvo oil? I have some Amsoil gear oil on hand.
I have read some comments on the coolant hoses. Some say that the silicone after market are hard to get on. I figured I would go with the Volvo rubber ones unless I get conflicting info. The originals lasted 18 years. That's longer then I will last. Lol.
I guess once I have the parts in hand I will start on this. Seeing as how there is so little info on this repair, I will try to write up some details on the repair, pitfalls and such.
Thanks again
Don't forget the copper washers, not brass as Robert said, or just anneal the old ones. You need 6.
Loosening the 17mm banjo bolts on the coolant lines on the turbo from below is easy with a harbor freight extended low profile ratchet.
This one.

Let us know how it goes. This hose change is on my list of things to do this summer also so I'd be interested to know how you make out.
I've had the angle gear out of my car 2 times, it's not a difficult job, you will have to take out the propshaft first and passenger CV axle but this also gives you an opportunity to regrease the propshaft CV joints and centre support bearing, also a good time to change the Haldex fluid with pump removal. The angle gear comes out pretty easy, 5 bolts 2 of which are difficult to see, I posted a picture and description of removal and bolt access on a thread titled "bevel gear and collar sleeve welding project" that should help you, it also shows how to remove the propshaft.
Also a good time to replace the collar sleeve and angle gear fluid! Take Abscate's advise on fluid type and only use the recommended Volvo type from a bottle that says "Volvo" on it, especially for the Haldex.

Thanks putting together a list. Already have the Haldex fluid. Seems to be a bit of different opinions on the actual oil for the bevel gear. Most used a 75-90 synthetic. Will add some more stuff to the list. Didn't think of the copper washers. Will pick up one of those long handle ratchets too.
With the holidays, I probably won't get started till after the first of the year. So many projects and so little time. I need to move the xc and pressure wash it before I start. The bottom side looks like it collected 50 pds of mud.
It's a full time job keeping all of my old vehicles running. 86 Mazda b2000 with over 400,000 miles. 73 Toyota Land cruiser, 86 Chevy K30 crew.
Oh and we have a black lab too.
Best to all, thanks . I will definitely post back on this thread about my progress and any problems that arise.
