1997 850 Engine & Transmission oil change results / requesting feedback

It was not 6 month old transmission oil, I only changed 3.5 quarts 6 months ago, full capacity is 8 quarts.
I see. I didn't think about the amount that stays in the torque convertor and other places, unless flushed. I need to start thinking about replacing the ATF in my cars.

I don't flush, some recommend 4 drain and fills spaced out 100 miles apart. I'm new to Volvo, I've worked on Toyotas for 30 years, and for me, drain and fill once per year seemed to be the best. Since this car is new to me, maybe every 6 months.

There is a method described both on the Forum and in several Y/T vids for pulling the discharge cooling line from the transmission to the radiator and pumping the fluid into a container 2-3 quarts at a time, stopping the engine and adding that measured amount back until the whole fresh 8 quarts are on board. Since the transmission isn't doing any work - no clutch packs are engaged, essentially nothing is turning except the pump gears - it's a method used for years with good results.
