People’s Republic China…..

Spent two hours with police because I booked ticket with xxxxxxx5xxxx instead of xxxxx6xxxx passport number.

My mistake and one you really have to be careful about. Now my problem is both the real passport number and the presumably non-existent passport number are flagged as fraudulent. No one has/ wants authority to undo this flag.

I remain calm and cool. It looks like I can get a yak to take me from my location , fjord a stream or two, and hitch onto a train and get back to Shanghai in about a week , worst case. Always good to have Plan Y.

My Air China agent whispers , please don’t worry. I call senior Air China Manager.

Door opens. In comes 95 pounds of Senior Manager dressed in a killer business outfit, with a stern look on her face.

Walks behind police counter, grabs my passport, and shakes in face of police. Global Services! You fix now!

She takes me outside where cart is waiting m leaving my passport inside. We go right to the gate, and I’m escorted in to my seat. When she boards with me, the whole plane crew snaps to attention. She stays in front of plane so I know we aren’t leaving.

Two minutes later, in comes another out of breath assistant with my passport and my champagne wasn’t quite at right temperature , but I will make do.

I have some class A crazy travel stories. I need to make a thread just for these, and will. Too tired tonight. Got up at 3:30am to get my son on a 5:55am flight Denver to Orlando for a week with his grandparents... they're taking him to Kennedy Space Center, among other places. He's going to have his mind blown I think...

That'll be a blast for him. There's a museum near the launch pads with a complete Saturn V laying on it's side, inside the building. You can walk along it and under it. Off to the side is a Lunar Lander on it's legs.

If he's a car nut, there's the Revs Institute with an amazing collection, but I think it's on the west coast near Naples. Yeah, here....

Had Saturday morning to kill before double red eye journey home.

Visited Xi’an and the epic terra cotta army. In 1974 , a farmer drilling a well discovers a 2000 year old sculptured figure

They start to unearth it, and find he has some companions. ….

Fantastic opportunity. I wonder if the unexcavated areas are solid rock, or have more figures inside. Or were they supports for a floor structure over the top? So interesting that all the faces and expressions are unique.

They have uncovered 1000 of 6000 known statues.

‘I had exactly the same thought. Are each one of those faces a 2000 year old person in time?
