What have i missed? Bromsfel Stanna Omgående

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

The only other issue as the symptoms like speedo dropping out could be the DIM is failing with age and temperature which is not uncommon at this age. The speedo can also drop out because of ABS issues, but then I'd expect the ABS light to come on.

Apologies, but my Norwegian is extremely poor. The warning message you get, do you know what that might be in English?

It is unlikely, but it is possible the chips in the keys are failing or failed. We had that happen on one of our keys. I bought ships off Ali Express and fitted them into the keys. I had to buy a third key and get them all programmed as the dealer could only do it with a barcode off the packaging. Hopefully it is not that.

Last thing might be the electrical contacts in the ignition are worn.

As far as my googling goes, i think the message is equivalent to BRAKE FAILURE STOP SAFELY or BRAKE FALURE STOP SAFELY ASAP, at the very least the highest "fault level" if you can call it that. I know there are other messages called brake service required or urgent but the car will still let you drive away with these faults, unlike the one i get which puts the car on "lockdown".

The dim has been tested multiple times with VDASH and every gauge is working fine, but i guess it could be internal and intermittent? Could still be something with the immobilizer though...

I thought that might be what it was saying, but thanks for clarifying for me.

Unfortunately, that is the problem, with random problems trying to get to the bottom of what the actual cause is. A general message with no code thrown is not of much help to you. Immobilizer is a possibility, but not sure why it would throw a code for brakes rather than an immobilizer warning message.

I hate to suggest it, but you may have to pull the CEM and have a physical look at it. It could have been damaged by water getting into it and causing corrosion on electrical pins or shorting which only happens once the u nit warms up, or in certain levels of humidity.

Thanks for all the help so far!

I did pull out the CEM and took a little visual inspection on it, where I did not see much being wrong. Pulled out all the relays and looked fine visually there too. Sprayed down the big connector aswell.

A little side note though, the temperatures this morning was around 0c. On this commute the fault code popped up 3 seperate times, compared to the ~once a month in summer with around 20c. Looking back, it's always happened somewhat proportional to how cold it is.

Other than this, i have not done anything with the CEM and DIM... Seems like a hassle to replace

They are. You possibly don't have a company like Xemodex that repairs and tests the units. Not cheap as I was looking at it for a friends C30 when we suspected the CEM. Fortunately it was not the issue.

They do also clone the units is you supply a spare unit. Of course the risk is that the used unit you supply may be faulty too.

Strange that cold causes more of an issue. That may suggest a corroded joint somewhere or bad soldered joint. But where to look it is hard to suggest.
