Is your 240 a DL with the single carb? If so you probably disconnected the anti-diesel valve (idle solinoid). In older cars this valve can malfunction and leak which can cause a high or irratic idle. There is no problem disconnecting it, but the carb will need mixture and idle speed readjusted. There will also be an increased chance the engine will diesel when shut off.arete123 wrote:Not to say this will work with yours, but I had high idle on my 81 240. So I cut the wire that went to the "smog" equipment and then adjusted the idle screw up to proper idle. It needs a little warm up now if cold to properly work but otherwise works good.

I went to Chiltons to find the photo and it is the air control valve. I have fuel injection. There are about 5 wires that connect to it and I cut the one that had the same effect on it as when I disconnected all five. I had to fake smog out. The 5 wire plug was connected, but that one wire cut inside the wrap.
