Mike,
To answer your question, no, not really.
However, I've had several "coincidental" break-downs in my car's past that seemed almost deliberate by the dealer. They did rape you (price wise) on the fuel pump and didn't get it right to begin with. My opinion is to find a good non-dealer mechanic. In regards to the MAF, you can try cleaning it with contact cleaner....spray liberally on the sensor but don't touch it, then let it dry, reset any codes and see if this does the trick. If not, they are easy to replace and can be bought new for under $200. Keep this in mind when you find out what kind of "discount" they give you....takes 5 mins to change it out.

He said about 800+ for a pump, that's more than fair.
They charge $1400 for a new pump installed around here!
So why would you say that? It's a 4 to 5 hour job plus the pump

I still think that's high....wow, much higher up north huh?
Larry, who owns a '97 850 and posts here just had his done at an independent for around $500 and I thought that was high.
Guess I was wrong.

Thanks for the clarification. I hope our '94 V70 never has to have this done.

I had a similar problem and the local garage suggested I buy another battery. That worked though the car was quite reluctant and would spin over for a while. Then further trouble began, hot start issues, would crank ,I'd have to do three key turns before starting,, what a drag. Then came the cold weather -2 and Sven would spin over but not start. So looking at all the posts, I wondered whether it could be fuel blockage, leakback on injectors, crank sensor. I was concerned as paying the garage to check things out while they scratched their proverbials was costing. Then I hit upon a post which said something about starter motors could fail though appear to be turning engine over,,, apparently these d5s are sensitive and require correct revolutions . I asked the mechanics at garage and they said they'd experienced this with Vauxhals. So I ordered new reconditioned starter £80 took of the old one, quite simple as its at the front of the engine, few rubber tubes to remove first. Next day put on the new starter,,, in the snow again -2, turned on the ignition, mechanics from garage watching and hey presto Sven motored up faster than ever. Infact i've owned this car for seven years and it's never started as quick s it did today. So if anyone is having similar problems think about the starter, quite a deceptive motor, could be breaking down over time but appear to be ok. The hot start problem I guess was down to the rotor wires expanding and not helping efficient rpm. Hope this helps someone.
