88 760 turbo Radio says off

Post by rmcmighty »

I had posted in another location https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/chat/p ... hp?t=12141

So I took the advise of "billofdurham" and called my local volvo dealer !
This fellow was very nice and asked me for my Vin # .. I gave it to him ( over the phone) and he told me to leave my key in the #1 position for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours and the readout on my radio should say code " it says off now" then he said i will be able to punch in the 6 digit code he gave me and it should be fine ! I will keep you all posted 8)

I may have figured out how the coding works for these radios works . well for my model any how ... but i did figure out a pattern from the number the friendly young fellow gave me and the serial # on my head unit !
hers how i think it works, I hope it may help somebody !
Make sure the head unit says CODE and make sure you have the serial # handy for the head unit ! mine is one letter followed by 8 digits, you take the first and second digits then the 8th digit , then the 5th and 7th digit and the 8th digit again put them all together in the order i just said and you should have your code ! just press the AUT button after you enter the code

ex. if your serial # is A70425936 your code should be 706536
I hope this is not just a fluke but it's worth trying

Good detective work. However, the later cars only have a four digit code.

I called the local dealer here and they gave me a code for my car over the phone. It didn't work, but they still gave it to me. I then found where someone had written it in the owners manual. That one worked.
Yeah, I found that the code written in the book, worked for me as well!!! Of course I felt stupid, when I saw it, as I had been perusing through the owner's manual for like half an hour - DUH!!!

All the dealer can give you is the ORIGINAL radio code.
Your radio was probably changed along the way.
Then you have to pull the radio out of the slot and give the dealer the two sets of serial numbers on top of the radio.
Then they can get the correct code.
