Finally got to this job. I did it on the garage floor in 10'F temp. Not my idea of fun but tranny got worse with the cold temps. It took about 5 hours to complete. It is a pain because the engine has to be supported and the subframe dropped down for access. Also the wiring connectors would not come apart. I had to cut the old ones off.
The car drives like a dream again. Shift as it should without delay and no flare between shifts.
Total parts was around $850.00. Local shop wanted 4 hours labour. Doing it yourself.....priceless.
B.T.W. As this is not an electronic part (only solenoids), the car doesn't know the difference and no need to go to the stealership to get any software reflash. I disconnected the battery before I started the job and reconnected it after. I do have the latest software version update in the trans ecm.
Transmission slow to shift into drive, 2002 XC70
My 2000 is doing the same thing. Its at the shop this weekend again getting another flush and refill. Second time in 20k. My mechanic which I trust says its the selonoids are sticking on drive and hopefully flushing it will clean it out he hopes. He said that the only place he could find the selonoids at was teh dealer and it was 1800 dollars. He said if we could make it last another year or two they should be available aftermarket soon. Its only got 131k on it by the way and its a non turbo. I was wanting to know where you or anybody else got the seloniods from. I know I could do it myself or else Id get my transmission guy to do it for me if I was feeling too lazy.
Yes this is my first posting but everybody else leaves such good posts all I have needed to do is read and I find anything im looking for. Great site thank you in advance.

Second time! Maybe its the first time you will be trying a Bardhal or Molyslip transmission conditioner to freeup the sticky selonoids.

He told me this afternoon that the fluid came out pitch black. He says it wont be long til it quits all together. He gave me quote and said he would call back tomorrow after he confirms the price for the parts. He said 2000 would be very close. He said to keep changing the fluid and maybe it will last longer but he said he really didnt know. Said it might last til next week or til next year. I said CRAP. Does anybody know what is involved in taking out the transmission myself? Ive replaced several 5 speeds over the years, a 4 speed this year I changed myself. But front wheel drive is different. Does the motor have to come out on these cars? Thanks again in advance.

Yes, the motor has to come out. Some pull the whole thing, others drop the subframe and do it from below.

a240zinga, on the other hand if you change the oil again, you maybe flushing out the previous owner's mistakes. 20k further down the line and the after market parts could become available, the oil may last 40k, and you would have dollars in your pocket for a real breakdown.

ABSURD.
Solonoids do not cost this much, not even close.
personally with "only 140K"
I would have just bought a guaranteed used tranny at a cheaper installed price or at least about the same installed and a better shot of it being right.
Used trannies are about $800, labor is 8 hours or so
You're wasting a HUGE amount of money here
