Are some of these components known to be prone to failure
Inspect the vacuum pump carefully. Since it sits under the battery it has been potentially subjected to a battery acid bath. That type of damage is clearly visible.

Hi there, I've stripped and sold several of these on Fleabay and never had a problem. I think the systems are the same for all the 850's and the "classic" V70's up to 2000. The throttle control is actually via the throttle pedal itself via a long vacuum pipe that runs from the pump under the battery around the radiator and into the cokpit behind the dash. I wrote a fitting guide after several buyers asked me and i'm happy to email you a copy if you desire. I'm just about to list a full kit so it's a coincidence really.

The only thing you have to concern yourself with is whether your car is manual or Auto transmission. The manuals have 2 safety release switches (clutch and throttle) whereas the auto's obviously have only one. You can buy extra switches from Volvo if you buy a kit from an auto and you have a manual so no real problem there.

I usually get between

Hello pebsham,

Thanks for your answer. I sent you a private message. I would indeed be very interested by this fitting guide, and maybe too by the kit you are going to put on sale.

V70s for the '99 and '00 model years had Electronic Throttle (except the Euro-spec 10 Valve 5cyl models, which retained a traditional throttle), cruise was a software function with none of the usual cruise control parts, except the stalk. This was also the case for MSA 15.7- and 15.8-controlled diesel cars from '99 to '00.

Ok, so in the meantime I bought all the parts required, and installed them on the car. Vacuum lines, pedal switches, pump, control module and new stalk are all in place.

The only thing I miss is the electrical connections to the pedal switches.

According to this post http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/Crusie-C ... 77420.html and information from the repair manuals, I should have a grey-white and grey-black pair to connect to the brake pedal, and a grey-black and grey pair to connect to the clutch.

I can't find matching connectors anywhere.

Where are they attached when unused, or where do they connect from (or from which harness)?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I dived back under the dashboard, this time with my good old trusted headlamp. And this time, I found the connectors. They're "stored" so deep inside the dashboard that without a proper light source, it's nearly impossible to see them in the darkness down there (not mentioning the awkward work position...)

If someone is looking for them, look above (on both sides) of the steering column. The grey cables are easier to see at first than the connectors themselves. They are fitted into small metal clips.

Anyway, I connected them, and went for a test drive on the highway: the thing is working perfectly!

Perfect!

I tried looking under my dash for you this afternoon and the wires from the stalk didn't seem to be in a harness at all. The wire between the brake and the clutch seemed to loop over the steering column and from there it got lost into a massive gob of wires.

A nice upgrade for you.

Thanks a lot for taking time to investigate about this for me, Lee.

This is indeed a very nice addition! Now if I was to find accessory 9134 177-6 ("Remote controlled central locking", page 4.53 of accessories catalog) for a good price, the car would be complete with all options I like! But I doubt it will happen, never seen one of these for sale...
