850 AC recharge failed

My el cheapo Interdynamics-brand recharge kit has a metal fitting on the neck. It took me 2 cans for the gauge to read 35 PSI with the AC running on max(was told that 35 psi will get you to the promised land).

Thanks everybody for your comments. I'm going to try again. I know that a) consumer-grade tools can and do break, and b) a first attempt at a fix like this can go wrong.
