Actually I have another question. Typically what turbo units are in these cars so I can at some point rebuild my unit.

All 850's and first generation 70 series Volvo's have Mitsubishi turbo's (different variants of the TD04HL). Even those that make the same boost have some subtle differences depending on year and trim so it's good to know what you're up against. This should help: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.ph ... opic=86240
Btw, If you look in eBay for seller "kansai-dynamics" they sell a rebuild kit for the Mitsu turbo's at a reasonable cost...and they know what they're doing. If you do find that your turbo needs rebuilding, I have a step-by-step rebuilding instructions using kansai's kit in a pdf format I can send you.
All of the above said, these turbo's are very strong and it is actually very rare that they need a rebuild unless you have high miles and the oil was not changed routinely. If someone tells you that your turbo is shot, look at the simple stuff first...
Oh, and to answer your question that you posted earlier- I've been around these cars for a long time and know of no way that the ECU's (Motronic 4 series) can be tuned through a lap-top like the later model ME7's can. Most places either add a chip but IPD actually does do a software re-write of the Epprom chip internally. Not sure exactly how they do this but I'm almost certain it's not with a laptop.
