Hope that solves your problem in the 'long' term. Keep us posted if and when it does give up the ghost.
I think a lot of times, when the dealers say the tranny is 'toast' it is because they are too lazy to do a proper diagnosis and maybe can make more money by just replacing the entire tranny. When I took a mechanic from the local dealer for a test drive to try to diagnose a 'howling' noise which I thought and he eventually confirmed was a front wheel bearing going bad, I asked him about tranny failures/replacement. He more or less admitted that often it is just a problem with a valve or a sensor and not a complete transmission failure which causes a lot of trannies to be replaced. But the simplest procedure is to just replace the whole tranny.

Hi there,
I have a 2001 S80 T-6 exec. it now has 220 000km and I noticed a couple weeks ago that the transmission had some shifting problem when it was cool.
The problem goes away after 2-5 minutes. I tough it could be linked to the trans-oil since the problem goes away after a while, but the oil level is perfect and it is very clean.
I suspect a solenoid problem.
I never received a service code for the trans. problem.
