Re: Loud creaking when turn sharp
Ihad this problem on the right front of my '98 S-70, I bought new front struts (probably didn't need them but at 100K ?) and I also bought a new right front strut mount. When I got the struts out and pulled the right side mount, I discovered that the bushing had come loose and the strut shaft was rubbing and had worn away the side of the rubber stuff in the mount, hence the squeaking noise, replaced the mount and got one for the left side too as the rubber in it was getting all dried out and loose; wouldn't have been long until it was noisy too. I live down a dirt road that gets like an oldtime washboard after a bit of rain.

Probably CV joints or bad end links. Mine used to make the same noise if I turned really sharp (relatively speaking of course; these cars have the turning circle of a tank). I replaced both axles and it doesn't happen anymore.

If it's a popping noise I would check your cv joint. Easy to do. Just prop the car up with a Jack. Take the tire off. And look at your axle for a large rubber ballish thing. Lol. Nice way to describe it right?
Anyways if it's all oily and greesy than chances are. Bam that's your problem. Lol. Means you got a bad cv joint.
You can either 1 replace just that... Which I elieve means you have to take out the whole axle. Or
2. Just replace the whole axle.
My 850 the axle cost 79$ and 20$ for a friend who knew how to put it in.
The cv joint everyone wanted the same for a rebuilt one. And about 100-200$ for a new. Soooo you can see why I just bought the axle. Lol.
Oh btw. The place I was going to buy the axle from online before I found it at a discount auto. Was willing to walk me threw step by step over the phone if I did it myself. And even if I didn't by it myself.

The car creaks loudly when you turn tight into a parking lot or making a u turn. Sounds like a haunted house door. I thought maybe the tire was rubbing against the wheelwell, but I dont see any wear on the tires. This has been happening for a while. thank you for any information.
Sounds like the steering stops need to be greased.
It's cheap and easy.
I had the same problem with my 2004 C70 HPT.
Get under the car (don't need jackstands or anything) and look at the front wheels. Then look at the suspension in the front. You should see a piece of metal that "stops" the wheels from turning. NOTE: this attachment is not on the wheel.
Those two pieces (one on each side) require grease or else they make nasty noises when you turn full lock.
Just buy some Mobil1 grease and slab some on there.
Let me know if you need pics or more info.

Hi, that is great.
Sorry I didn't get back to you with pictures but again, it's so easy I knew you'd figure it out.
Yes when I originally had this problem it sounded like my steering or suspension was going to fall out of the car.
The Mobil 1 synthetic grease I put on the steering stops has lasted over a year!!
If you check the steering stops every oil change for lubrication, you'll never have the problem again.

If you look at the bottom of the suspension leg ther is a small smooth plate about half an inch square and anover plate on the bottom wish bone cover these in copper grease and see if this makes a difference it did on my C70 2000 model Convertible.

I had to create a account just to say thanx. The simplest repair I’ve ever done and possibly saved me a few hundred dollars. Thanx I wasn’t sure what a steering stop was but damn if it wasn’t obvious. Although mine have telflon covers. A coat of grease did the trick.
