I wouldn't say ugly... just more "futury", going with the flow of curvy cars. I don't care much for that in the Volvo line, although I LOVE the C30R design!

Iii dunno...the Hondas & Acuras I used to love have become disgusting. I'm not sure what they're trying to do with "futurey", but they just look fat and blocky to me. The 2007 Accord and 2005 Civic were good-looking cars, and they phased it out completely with the new models. The only Volvo I really like is the XC60, and MAYBE the S80, but I'd never buy one. Volvos even got ugly after the S70 model, with the exception of the V70. Saabs are ok, but they're being phased out it sounds like. I hope Saab makes a recovery along with Volvo. Recent Fords have been pretty ugly and ever bigger with the exception of the Fusion and Ranger. GM's, just no. BMW's have become ugly and fat and overly complicated, except the 3 series, which is being re-designed next year. Toyotas have gone the same way as Hondas, especially the Camry (Corollas are pretty nice), and I would never in my life even touch a Lexus. Even the new Mazda3 is ugly. I DO like what VW and Audi have done with their styling department, though...especially the new Jetta, Golf GTI, and A4.
The 90's were the pinnacle as far as car design is considered
I agree, I really do think some of the best-looking cars (outside of the 50's-60's) were from the late 90's-early 2000's. Early-90's and late 80's cars were pretty crummy though, with the exception of 90-93 Accords, which were some of the best cars EVER made.

My 2 cents anyway.

Good riddance. They've been going on about this sale for 3 years. Volvo died years ago. Whether ford or some chinese company owns the brand today makes no difference at all to me.

Sorry to see this sale. I love my 98 Volvo, and like the 2000+ styles even more, but would not buy a new Volvo anyway because of the high initial cost. Ford's quality has improved significantly in recent years, especially their smaller cars, according to Consumer Reports. I bought a Ford Fusion last year after 16 years of avoiding Fords because of a really bad 1992 Taurus. I have 33K on the Fusion and the only problem was a couple of stuck calipers on the rear.

You never know what might happen.
Chinese might be really able to build a reliable car (the italians will be able to make the design I guess).
I read somewhere, that in the sixties the quality of the japanese cars have been terrible.
We all saw what happened after that.
For instance my laptop (a Lenovo X61) is made almost entirely in China ant it is one of the most (if not the most) expensive and reliable laptops.
I've dropped it a 1 000 times and only small chips of plastic fall from it.
All the rest works OK.
Just for comparison, before yesterday I went to my partner's office and he was fixing a recently bought Dell laptop, the screen was broken and had to be replaced after only on drop from the table.
So, let's keep our fingers crossed.

jablackburn i've got the same problem. I don't know what brand to like now.
I don't like American, I hate japanese, BMW/Mercedes/Audis are usually associated with a-hole owners, and I don't wanna be one of them.
So.. I'm stuck. haha

Merry Christmas, everyone.
Is this also the same company that bought the Hummer line from GM? Just wondering how this is going to affect the quality of the Volvo line of cars. Since I have only owned 1 (1995 850, still have it), will be looking to buy another and pass this on down the line to my step son who will be driving in the next year or two. Really pleased with the dependability and reliability of this car and was looking to buy another. Just wondering what ya'll think this will do to the Volvo name.

Actually.. maybe this wont be as bad as we think. Geely's owner plans to leave Volvo as it is. The article says they will hardly touch Volvo. And Volvo will be independent from Geely. I think our biggest concern is simply Volvo being Chinese. But it shouldn't be so bad. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTOE5BO04O20091225
