I got an email from Jon123:
I only got the car back on Friday (19/02/10) but has been fine since then.
So I hope the swapping of the turbo has done the trick.
It was a big job the dealer had the car for the best part of two days. Luckily because the fault originally happened during the warranty period I did not recieve a bill.

I don't know where you are, but if you are in the UK and want my dealers address drop me another email fir his details.

Did not know this was not a US car. Also, did we ever hear what type of engine was in this XC90? Thanks for posting that email Mathew, nice to get follow up info. It would be funny if it was a diesel, or an engine not offered in the USA. Just assumed it was either a 5 or 6 cyl. turbo.

You may have solved problem now! but just for info, my XC90 53 plate did the same, found out a small stone (or some object)had punctured the turbo intercooler, expensive for new part so had repaired by welding or soldering all ok for now, Rob.
