For a timing belt, I'm guessing they're asking for this one?

It's on the fuel rail cover on the front of the engine. If you can't find it, just give them my engine number, mine's the same as yours is. It's the late-98 & later cars that have a different tensioner.

Okay the timing belt is tight and the teeth look a little worn but everything is on the sprokets. I put a computer on and the trans range circuit code came up. I tried starting fluid in the air flow but no good

That code wouldn't cause a no-start condition.

If the timing belt looks ok, can you see the timing marks on the camshafts? Do they line up ok?

If that looks alright, I'd check next for spark. Pull out a plug or two and lay it on top of the engine, disconnect the other wires so it won't try to run on those cylinders, and crank it.

Did you check the compression yet? We still don't know if you bent the valves or not.

I think if the starter kinda chugs like normal and doesn't sound like it's smashing into anything, the compression is fine. I would definately try this quick & dirty test like Lee described to check that's ok.
Ozark Lee wrote:My suggestion is to do nothing until you know the timing belt is proper but from there you can simply loosen the spark plugs about 1 turn and listen for the "Pffft" sound on each cylinder as the car gets cranked by the starter. No "Pffft" means no compression. No compression means a bad / bent valves on that cylinder.
If that works, and you're sure the fuel pump is working, try either the method in Paul's post above, or try adding a tablespoon of oil to each cylinder to get the compression up.

I'm going to be on the road for the next 5 hours, so you won't have any more ideas from me tonight, but I hope you get it working
