Wanted to bring this back to the top to see if anyone had any advice or a possible solution to this problem. Didn't want the post to get lost. Thanks

Here's a link to my post on the same subject from a couple of years ago.
Problem has not re-appeared since.
I suspect one of the guide pins did not pass through the pad and allowed it to swing on the other pin. If both the pins are correctly through the eyes of the pad try swapping the pads around (inner to outer).
Here's a pic of the rear pad.

Well, my friend/mechanic think that we diagnosed it, and we'll be proceeding tomorrow.

Driver's side front wheel hub bearing. He's getting me the part AND installing it for $200, and he didn't charge me for the 3 1/2 hours of ripping things apart, or the 45 minutes of driving to try to get it to make the noise. Which, of course, it didn't want to do....that time. Also discovered that my e-brake shoes are completely wasted, and the hardware is pretty much rotting into the plate. That's definitely got to be done before inspection in a month!

It's pretty much a rule of life that whenever you take a car to a mechanic, it will act like a perfect little angel. Then they just look at you like you're an idiot and say they couldn't get it to do anything. As soon as you leave, it starts again.

Parking brake shoes aren't too bad to fix yourself:

A learning experience is one of those things that says, "You know that thing you just did? Don't do that."

Yeah, I'm just going to have him do the shoes. But FCP is WAY cheaper than his prices, so I'll be bringing my own parts. For the labor that he charges me vs. the time that I would spend cursing my car, it's almost not worth it to even attempt it myself, haha!

Haha, yeah. Of course the typical angel-car syndrome.

We drove around together for about 45 minutes and he was finally like "I'm starting to think you're making stuff up just to come see me" *wink* lol. Jerk.

Of course, then he pulled into the junkyard that they use for the shop, and it started up. TAKE THAT, SILLY BOY!

What's the theory behind the bearing making noise when the brakes are hot?

Well we don't have much of a theory for the hot part. But it just sounds so damn much like a bearing noise!

We'll see if it's gone now, we changed the bearing. And it was definitely bad, whether that was the noise or not.

I have the same noise coming from the front left wheel of my 96 850. On ly at the end of braking but sounds metal on metal. Mechanic said it is front wheel bearing, but I dont believe him. I just drove the car 2000 klms and there is no noise at speed. Only under braking. cant see any scpres or marks on rotors, however the abs sensor look really close to the edge of the disk and appear to be just touching.
