I'm afraid of saying anything here and jinxing my luck, but here goes...I'm really surprised at how unreliable your Volvo's are...I'm not sure what it is but my GLT hasn't given me any trouble at all. I've got 112k on the clock and I'm in the process of replacing a lot of stuff but it will last another 100k before it needs to be replaced. I do agree that something happened in the 90's and is still happening now. The old RWD tanks were truly more reliable than the cars Volvo has been making for the past 20 years.

the ABS control module was leaking. The part alone was $850 plus labor. Then when I asked him to take close look at the rest of the car (to find any other major problems before I sink that kinda cash into it) we found the rack and pinion leaking from two places. That was it. At 119,000 the car was broken beyond repair.
IMO this is unnaceptable. They cant build a car that doesnt need this at only 120k? The car was junk at 120K. It was in great condition and super clean. What a shame. Along with the trans issues, you would think these were Chrysler cars.

Back in 2001, my wife got a '99' V70-XC. It had about 21k on the odometer. The throttle module problem cropped up the second week we had it, and it has been a money pit ever since. We now have about 205k on it. The only reason we still have it is that no-one would give us anything close to what kelly blue book was saying it was worth. I went to trade it in for the cash for clunkers deal and the dealer first said that it didn't qualify, then when asked what I could get on a trade he said $200. I almost choked his scrawny neck, good thing I kept my cool. Long story short, I wrecked my '02' Ford Focus with 175k on it in December (awesome car, and the first new car I ever bought). The only problem with it was bad front springs that the factory had a service bulletin out for and replaced them free of charge. I just purchased a 2010 Focus SES and my wife is driving it and I am driving the green turd box (what we affectionately call the volvo). It just took another crap 2 days ago. The deal with my wife was that if it costs more than $100 in parts to get it back on the road I would donate it to Vetrans of America and write it off for good. We'll see how that goes, I'm so tired of fixing that thing. I'm also a Ford employee, and since the Chinese are buying Volvo, I see no reason to keep the turd box in my driveway any longer.

I am not a big fan of Japanese cars. I would probably get an American car before I would go Japanese but that is just my taste. I have to admit that the camry is a very reliable car but I just can't get over the way the front looks. That is my big beef with the car.

I'm going to stick with the European automakers...I think they have more class and history to them.
