Just ran the CarFax report. Some interesting items to note:

- Two owner vehicle. First owner had the car from 1996 to 2006 and put 131k on it. Second owner only put a little over 2k miles a year on the car.

- The vehicle DOES have an accident reported. Right side damage where it hit another vehicle. The interesting thing is the dealership selling the car says it has a clean Carfax history.

Other than that, uninteresting. There are no real service records reported on the car other than a few times where it was serviced at Don Beyer Volvo at 104k, 117k, and 132k (serpentine belt replacement.)

Question... it was my impression that the Turbo cars were 2.3L, but the Carfax lists the car as a 2.4L... am I missing something?

No, the T5's are 2.3L, you're right about that.

Interesting, because the car is definitely a turbo. Not only is the turbo there, but you can clearly see the boost gauge as well. We all know boost gauges are the most reliable way to tell if a car is turbo'd or not . Oh well... Carfax just might not have their stuff straight in this case. Nothing big to fret about I guess.

One issue, though. This is supposed to be my daily driver allowing me to take the Z to 500+ hp territory, yet I have found all of these things for the 850s online... from nicer wheels to IPD ecu upgrades to prancing moose stickers... I'm going to undoubtedly start dumping money into my future 850 beyond maintenance. I love it

It's definitely a 2.3L. The 2.4T was not even introduced until the next year, and didn't have a turbo gauge or badge on it

But the great thing is, no one expects a Volvo to be fast, whereas the Nissan they figure, eh, I might lose.

I have blown away unsuspecting Mustangs, BMWs, and even Audis in my S70...and had my butt handed to me by an old beat up 740 with what must have been a supercharged V8 in it. Man it sounded awesome

I can imagine. I'd imagine the S70 is pretty easily a low 14 second car with a little bit of work, which puts it right in the stock 1999-2004 Mustang GT territory, with the previous years being even slower. Always fun to be in control of a real sleeper.

Anyways, thanks for your help, guys. I'm working on a checklist to bring with me when I go back to look at the car tomorrow. I'll take it for a test drive too. If I feel good about it I might be making an offer.

If everything checks out on my test drive, what do you guys think would be a fair offer?

I have priced out about $600 in parts of things that I am pretty sure I need to do right away to make sure this car goes on for a while. Timing belt, PCV kit, plugs/wires, etc.

Also, since the dealer mentioned the AC needs a recharge, I'm thinking the evaporator will need to be replaced down the road which is probably going to be a weekend job.

I'm thinking $2000, settling somewhere around $2400 at the highest. I think I have some bargaining room since the car was involved in an accident (minor and only cosmetic, but still), needs the timing belt done, and is leaking oil from the filler cap seal.

Probably going to go back tomorrow for a more thorough inspection and test drive, assuming the car is still there!

Sounds good to me.

You'll definitely be saving yourself a lot of money knowing that you can do all of the work yourself, so you're already at an advantage. They should at least evacuate & recharge the AC for you before you pull off the lot with it.

When he told me about the AC needing a recharge he said he'd do it before I left with the car so I definitely will take him up on that.

If the AC makes it through the summer that's all I need. I don't want to be tearing apart the inside of the car in this VA heat. It was 94 degrees and humid at 9AM this morning! C'mon now!
