Why do I need to remove the tank? if the fuel pump is located behind the left rear seat, I removed the back rear seat, disconected
the seat belts wires and done! It was there just in front of me, but I don´t have the tool to open it. so I had to put everything back on place. I took my 2000 volvo v70 to may mechanic this morning, and suddenly he found the fluel pump under the right back seat, total diferent place wich I knew before, so i got confused, do i have 2 fuel pumps...no kidding...urgh!
2 things from above:

1) 1 pump.
2) If you DON'T have an AWD model, you don't need to drop the tank. There IS an access panel if your car isn't AWD.

The 98-2000 use one motor pump and an "ejector pump" in volvo's words. The ejector pump is an orifice that pushes a jet of fuel across an opening into a larger diameter hole and then through a hose back to the RH side of tank where electric pump is located. The ejector pump is mounted on the LH sender unit assembly and is pushed against bottom of tank to get all the fuel.
The fuel supply for that orifice feed is the excess fuel from fuel pressure regulator.
When the vapor emission levels standard was reduced they had to lessen the sloshed around fuel and fuel circulation that contributed to heating fuel. The second electric pump was phased in in 2004 and becomes the feed for the ejector pump. To my knowledge they never came up with a kit to put two electric pumps in the single pump system cars.
The ejector pump design doesn't care if there is fuel in the left side of tank or not, fuel goes across opening and either picks up fuel or air and no electric pump risks running air instead of fuel.

I have a 2000 V70 AWD and am having problems with the fuel gauge. I am showing about 3-5gallons left in my tank, but when I fill it up, I put almost 16 gallons in it. Do I have 2 fuel level sending units? I replaced the pump on the passenger side that has the fuel sending unit on it. I have the two fuel supply lines line up horizontally (you could draw a straight horizontal line across both). I am wondering is there a "reserve" in the tank that is not accounted for in the manual, according to it I should have a 17.1gallon tank? Any help is greatly appreciated. If pictures would help please let me know and I will try to post them. I have double checked the part number for the fuel pump and it is the correct one (9470674). Thanks Again!!

you have two sending units and they hook in series and can be plugged together wrong easily. You can also get the angle of the pump wrong and the sender float can hang.

Thanks to this site and all contributors for providing invaluable information. What symptoms do you have if this so-called 'ejector pump' fails well after you replaced the fuel pump and why don't I see the 'ejector pump' being sold or being available?

It's probably part of the fuel Hosing in the tank. Someone with VIDA can probably help with a diagram

I tried to load an old 2005 VADIS DVD (purchased it years ago on eBay) on a computer but the install failed. Thanks for the info. This site is a godsend!
