Are you from NC or just venture up that way a bit?
Funny, I would have gone to VT if it wasn't out of state. Be glad you didn't go to CU. I hate it.

Also I'm from near Charlotte, but in SC. So I'm not too far away from any of those pictures.

Nice shots guys! My hobby is photography...I still shoot some film (Canon Elan 7NE), but mostly digital (either a Canon EOS 7D or my trusty old EOS 20D).

Very nice - I love the pictures of the trains!

I've always wanted an EOS, but I just can't justify lugging the thing around when I go hiking or something.

I got by with a Canon Powershot A530 (5 MP, but great pictures) for years. My brother has an advanced model of that that's 7 MP, and takes absolutely fantastic pictures. I recently got an SD1440 (14.1 MP) as a gift, and I love it - I took it to New York with me at night, and it takes some great low-light pictures; something that just confused the heck out of my old camera.

Then there's always the old 35mm Canon camera that I keep as a hobby one. It's a great camera from the 80's, with the big flash that has to charge up and everything

Thank you. When I get some time, maybe I'll post some more shots. I've been a train nut since I was in utero (no, seriously, my mother used to go to a park by train tracks when I was still just a fetus, and she had to stop going in the third trimester because whenever a train would go by I would kick excitedly).

Coming from an old-school Minolta SLR and an aluminum tripod, my compromise on weight/bulkiness when I go out on a shoot is a carbon fiber tripod...as my old friend and photography instructor always says "the best tripod is the one you'll use." I don't know why, but I've never been happy with point-and-shoots (or near point and shoots like my backup Fuji S7000), there's just something about being able to throw it in manual when the automatic settings and sensors have given up and take the shot the way I wanted to take it (though I admit that I do that a lot less often with the 7D, it's as close to perfect even for high-speed shots that I'm almost always happy with the results in either aperture or shutter priority).

The pictures of the steam locomotives are very cool. I definitely like them the best.

As for cameras, I am still using my Nikon D50 DLSR. It is an older camera, but it still takes fantastic pictures and I see no need to upgrade it anytime soon.

Yea I use a Nikon D80, and sometimes D70, older Nikons. Here's some from Seattle.

I like the D80 a lot, just don't see the need to spend money on it right now. I do feel that the Nikons take the best pictures overall though.

Woah! That last one is awesome, Matt!

The controls on the little Nikons require way too much futzing with. For me, I just want a camera I can hold up and take a picture - quickly - with, without fiddling with settings. If I want something to turn out good (usually at night), I can mess with those too. For everything else, there's Photoshop.

These are only from my iPhone from this weekend down in Richmond, but I think the quality's actually pretty awesome for it being a phone.

I have to agree, those are both fantastic pictures. I like the top one with the water coming down the best.

Thanks Justin. I find the camera in the iPhone to be really good. Don't let MP distract you from important stuff like a) how easy the camera is to use when you need it and b) if it's actually something you want to have with you when you're out n about. Your best camera is the one you have with you. -- Ancient Chinese proverb.

Having said that, none of my pix above were made with my iPhone. :-)

Justin, I added a strong blue gradient to the top 1/3 and a strong red gradient to the bottom 2/3 of your photo, w/ both I reduced the opacity down to 10% or less.

Hope you don't mind! A strong sky makes or breaks a photo IMHO.
