Everyone is allowed to dream
When reality sets in and he understands that that R with high miles and a $1500 bill that's needed is not worth $2500.
More like $500 to $1000

I'll second the $500-1000 with a blown head gasket. It's a lot of work to replace that.

The benefit of an auction is it determines "fair" market value.

That's why he'd be better off repairing it and then selling. Only a Volvo enthusiast will think it's worth anything at all.

Seriously guys? A $4000 car that needs $1500 of work is suddenly only worth $500?

Either all you folks flunked 5th grade math 3 years straight, or that's one deep cheapskate streak.

I see it's up to $1125 with 6 days to go on the auction. Smart move, making it a long one.

If this car was in Oz it would sell for around $3,800. I'm hazarding a guess of $2,555. If we could place bets.....

Indeed!

If we can't buy it, and can't wager on it, at least we can kibitz...

Correct
I bought the exact same car a couple of years ago, needing about the same mechanical work plus about $800- $1000 in bodyworkThis R was all there,(correct Volans, very good seat condition, etc) and otherwise in decent shape.
Maybe not as super nice cosmetically as this one, but decent...
I paid $400 for it.
Using this math, it was worth $1400
That was two years ago, they're worth less now

Look, I'm not arguing about the condition of your car, it's in far better condition than 90% of the 850 R's left, but unfortunately doing a head gasket is not cheap and unless you have the talent to do it yourself as most people do NOT, it's a big undertaking

You make a good point. I really wish I could have bought the T5-r that was on Ebay last fall, it has like 26,000 miles on it and was in museum condition, it went for 13 grand.

The rarity of Rs in well maintained condition is what is making them INCREASE in value. As good ones get rarer they will, and should increase in value.
