you might have a bad DIM(instrument cluster), common failure in '03 '04 MY, but not rare in an '07.
Stop replacing parts and pay for the correct diagnosis at the dealer. You do not have to fix it at the dealer(don't tell them so), but a correct diagnosis is needed
Brake failure message came on as well as the ABS light
I agree with the above post about taking it to the dealer for diagnostics. I did write the company that repaired my BCM and here is what they said.
"On the initial bench test there where two codes stored in the BCM, one for the internal BCM fault and one for the SAS communication. We did clear both of the codes and internal fault code kept on coming back. So we proceeded with the repair and after the repair internal fault code no longer existed.
I suspect you do have a problem with the SAS (Steering Angle Sensor) if you where to scan the car and this code is stored then this sensor must be replaced.
Now it not unusual to have more than one problem with the same system, spouse you have take this car to the dealer or Volvo specialist they would recommend the BCM replacement first and then the SAS sensor.
I left this for last, Volvo just came up with new bulletin for SAS code. They did introduce new software to allow more tolerance for the SAS sensor before it sets the code. So it will be a wise idea to have you S/W upgraded first before replacing the SAS sensor. "
So it appears that I will be taking it to the dealer for the diagnostics as well as inquire about the SAS software update. Hope this fixes it.

I had this bundle of errors this past winter in my 2002 XC (except I don't remember my steering being harder). I also had some other random/strange errors/warnings like my brake lights being out, when they were not.
A few weeks ago, I replaced the alternator, and have had no further mystery warnings/errors.

Was there a resolution to your issue? I've been having similar problems with my 2001 v70 T5 and replaced the ECM and ABS module with the Xemodex rebuilds. The car idles fine but ABS .and SRS lights are on and it loses power on acceleration for the first 10 minutes after starting. After it warms up it runs fine. I called my dealer (Martens Volvo in Bethesda, MD) and they refuse to work on the car. "These things are really hard to diagnose and since we haven't been servicing the car since you bought it, we could lose our shorts trying to figure what is wrong with it."
If I weren't so well composed I would have said, "Dickheads."

Sorry I have not updated this thread. Last April ('12) I ended up taking it to a Volvo repair center (not the dealer) and they ended up replacing the CCM. I believe it stands for Common Computing Module. I was told that the CCM was not supply power to the ABS module. Don't know if that is all true or not, but it fixed all of the lights and everything has been working since.

CCM = Climate CTRL Module
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Well the CCM was in error. That was my days working on the KC-135 Stratotanker. Sorry about that.
I looked at the receipt and is says my central electronics module was not supplying power to the ABS module. Replaced CEM and all has worked since.

I am haveing this same problem did u ever get it fixed .what was it and i need help too tkscfm56doc wrote:Thanks all for the replies!
Last night I put the battery on a battery tender to make sure that the battery was fully charged and when I started the car this morning, I still have all my fault messages. Not sure about the alternator, but I would think after the battery was on the tender all night that even if the alternator was suspect, the fully charged battery would have masked the alternator until the battery voltage dropped. I also checked the brake fluid level and it was good.
Anyhow, here is my current state with all my faults:
Brake Failure message on the display
Engine System Maintenance message on the display
DSTC Spin off on message display and cannot turn back on
AVG MPH and AVG MPG not recording while driving
Odometer does not record while driving
Gas remaining to empty reads 9999 miles
Instantaneous mileage on the message reads zero’s
Tripometer does not work
Cruise Control does not work
ABS light illuminated
STC light illuminated
Red Triangle Warning Light illuminated
Steering Wheel seems like it requires greater effort while parked or slow moving
When I get home from work tonight I will check all the ABS sensors. Having done a lot of reading on the net, I like some suspect the ABS module. The part I do not understand is how an ABS module affects the odometer, instant MPG, AVG MPG/MPH?
Also by all appearances the car is running and performing fine with no appearance of anything wrong other than the lights and messages.
BTW If I pull the ABS module and send it off for repairs, can I continue to drive the car with the module removed or does this make the car non-operational?
Thanks
Greg

Yes, he posted that the CEM was replaced. But...I would have to agree that that's one heck of a replacement for this issue. It's sort of like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. There are many ways to solve a problem. Not getting to the root of the problem and changing one item out that impacts multiple items in the car- well, most of them in this case, is one way to do it. I suspect that it was most likely some type of ground fault (short, etc), on or the connection to the CEM. Of course that would be difficult to fault-trace. Over-all CEM failures are very very rare.Frank65 wrote: I am haveing this same problem did u ever get it fixed .what was it and i need help too tks
