I need to replace one on my 2002 b70 I think. Does anyone know what voltage or ohms reading should be on the sensor? Also how on earth do you get at it if it is on the drier? I can't see it anywhere, Many thanks Alan

Low pressure is the one on the line at the top of the firewall.

Hi everybody, do you enjoy the summer ? I don't - my AC is not working and not sure what to do about it.
Anyway, Few days ago the AC was freezing. Now it does different things. One pipe going to evaporator is very cold, white from frost, while the other one (the one with the low pressure switch on top) is warm.

So there is no circulation, it could be the pressure switch itself, some kind of sensor to operate the switch, or some relay. Any ideas how to test the low pressure switch or what could be wrong with the AC

Need help, the humid and heat is killing me slowly -:)

Ah, we talk Volvo V70 1998 base model

When you say there is "no circulation" do you mean the blower isn't running? Even then the evaporator shouldn't freeze up unless you have a low charge and the low pressure switch isn't shutting the system down.

Elaborate a bit more.

On my 1999 v70 both the low pressure switch and the pressostat ( pressure sensitive switch) have Schraeder valves.

They both do, I was simply wrong on my initial response. I had to change one of the high pressure switches out on Tuesday. It didn't fail electrically until I had the wrench slip on me while I was trying to remove the accumulator bracket and snapped it in half. Fortunately the Pick-N-Pull had three of them.

800 platform used schraeder valves but P2, P1, P3 high pressure sensors do not. The pressotat on P1 is still schraeder valved.
IF you unscrew the high pressure sensors on these others it can be very hazardous in addition to losing all the refrigerant and a bunch of the oil!

Hi Jimmy, my name is Ray Cudahy and I Thank God for this Forum as i have learned a lot and solved problems that seemed hopeless. I am currently attacking an A/C problem and because you seem so knowledgeable I wanted to ask you directly; My Volvo is a 2000 V70 SE FWD non Turbo L5 or Base.
The car has had many problems undisclosed by the Connecticut/ new york " dealer "Used cars 4 You" owner named Mike. Went into limp mode on a highway on the same we drove it home to Long Island.
I vaccumed and charged the a/c system due to warm air and that there was evidence of a die test through yellow neon residual. I ran it for a couple of weeks and the air was cold but the accumulator looked like it was ready to explode as the lower end and bottom were rotted and rusted. Because the leak was minor or perhaps didn't exist at all, I replaced the accumulator, vaccumed down the system, and charged it from the low side service port. I t seemed to be working fine but on one night it was a little cool outside so as we were returning home I turned the manual temp setting to about halfway between hot and cold. A few minutes later I heard what sounded like arching or shorting on the passenger side in the proximity of where the cabin air filter is located underneath the hood. The car was then acting funny as if stumbling and threw a P0532 DTC. Although I pondered about doing so, ( as I didn't want to created an additional problems)I cleared the code. I was then reluctant in using the A/C but realize that If I don't I might not find the problem. I have not been able to recreate the problem but I am also not turning the a/c / heat manual knob to halfway between hot and cold. I also noticed you mentioned of how the ecc (I think) can go batty sometimes? My main question is If you are able to help. In my particular car, is it possible to replace the (pressostat) pressure valve by the firewall "without draining the system" as my "1st Question" and is possible to change the other pressure valve located (which I assume is the high pressure line) "Y''d into the (thinner) high pressure line a few inches above the accumulator, "without draining the system;" as my (Second question)Thank You Ray
