1. See the jimmy57's Volvo Scan Tool (VST) instructions to retrieve correct mileage on 1996 850 post.

I suggest writing out the jimmy57 instructions on a piece of paper and giving it to the Service Dept personnel in case they don't have easy internet access and/or refuse to use MVS as a resource.

Also, you might check these few paragraphs that link to the same jimmy57 tip on how to read the mileage with the VST.

2. The takane2 link that misha provided in 2011 didn't work on my '97 850 T5 (with VDO cluster) -- after multitudinous attempts with all kinds of variations to the timing of the pulses. Also, there's a number of other '96-'97 850 owners for whom the takane2 method did not work.

I don't know if the takane2 method works on a Yazaki cluster (or if such clusters exist for the '96-'97 850). I noticed from that thread by takane2 that there were extremely few owners that verified his method worked on their '96-'97 850. Until such time that '96-'97 850 owners repeatedly affirm that the takane2 method works for those cars, I suggest NEVER using a flashing LED tool on OBDII pin 7 -- due to its potential for God-knows-what random results on any of the ECUs that feed from OBDII port's pin 7.
