McKennaR, Thank you for lending me the tool! It's on its way back now. Let me add a few items that I think can clarify some of the other posts on this topic.

1. Use the Volvo jack to lift the side of the car you're working on. This way there's not force on the endlink and it makes it easy to separate from the body. As other's have said, use a 5 inch piece of wood to keep it clear from the post. Yes, have saftey jacks in place if the Volvo jack would shift.

2. To get the through bolt out of the end link, rent a U-joint press tool. I went to PepBoys. It was $106 deposit that was refunded when I returned the tool. Tried hammering and other ways to break it free. No luck until I used the U-joint press tool. See the photo. The hole at the end of the tool is just big enough so the bolt can be pushed out.

3. When I used McKennaR's tool, the endlinks popped right out after about 5 minutes.

4. When the new end link is pushed in, use the tool and make sure it's aligned straight. Try to align the hole in the endlink with the hole in the delta link when you push it in. I struggled to align the holes and spent about 20 minutes to get it straight.

5. All bolts are secured with red loctite so most likely you'll need a breaker bar or an impact wrench to break them free.

When you're all done, start the car up and take it for a ride and be amazed. It rides with that solid feeling of a new Volvo.

You beat me to it! The tool is back and those in line have been PM'd or emailed.

Great pics! (still envious of your e-brake cable housings).

Wow, this is incredible- I will be contacting you!
I have to decide whether to buy another delta link and do both sides or not-
I have one for the left side (the one giving me all the noise), but the right side seems just as loose.
Do you know how much play is suppose to be on that bushing? I can push both of mine up about an inch.
Had a mechanic tell me last week that this might not be my problem at all- stuck on whether to really do this or not- a lot of trouble and $$ just to find out the popping and creaking are not from this piece- really hard to tell and it's not from springs, shocks or any other part we can figure out.

MIJ: that bushing controls fore and aft motion of the delta link. My symptoms were:

1. Grinding noise on all road surfaces coming from the back (more evident with the rear seats folded forward), even with the slightest pavement irregularity.
2. Pull to the right under braking / left on acceleration.
3. General "uneasiness" on all road surfaces. Back end felt like it was floating around with a mind of its own, especially on long sweeping corners.
4. When I came to a stop, the car would rock fore and aft for a wee bit.
5. When torquing lugs, the rear wheel on the affected side would move fore and aft 2" - 3" (total). If I could figure out how to post videos, I'd post my before and after. Both videos are around 30mb, because I don't know how to shut up (they could be shortened considerably with muting, and editing).

Videos are much easier to post on Youtube, Mc. Providing the links here would make it an early Spring.

Thanks.

Your closing sentence evokes good memory.

I am considering the task. Do you happened to have photos with wider angles? Would you post few for a better orientation, relationships, and application of both tools.

Many thanks.

Good afternoon / evening, all:

As promised, before & after videos of the driver's side endlink bushing replacement on the 1998 S70. I don't go into detail on the "how-to" as I was too busy cursing and busting my knuckles to film the procedure. Parmlind posted some pretty good pictures of his replacement. I can tell you that it is much easier with the tool than using a come-a-long, though drilling / melting the plastic probably won't hurt for extraction.

DISCLAIMER: I mention in the "after" video something to the effect of "...Volvo is worthless at making e-brakes." While this is true, I am aware that as the owner, it is incumbent upon myself to ensure the vehicle is in 100% working, and thus 100% safe order. I have since r&r'd the emergency brake mechanisms on both sides.

Disclaimer 2: I know y'all are jealous of my awesome, high-dollar PACEMARK branded studded snow tires and dirty steelies, but they're not for sale. j/k. My apologies for the low light.

ALCON:

I'm heading out west until mid-March.

Can deliver (ballpark):
Between 22-23 FEB from Fort Smith, AR to Barstow, CA along I-40.
Between 23-24 FEB from Barstow to Los Angeles along I-15/I-10.

I'll be between LA and San Diego from 25 FEB - 14 MAR before heading back to Arkansas. I can still ship it out between those dates if I don't drop it off en-route.

I'm driving the S70 from CA to AR 15 MAR - 18 MAR. Most comfortable highway cruiser ever. 30mpg avg doesn't hurt either.
