Youtube or surf a video of a car in a wind-tunnel for aerodynamics. If High School physic's serves me right the lower the air duct the hotter the air. Heat rising from the ground on a hot day is hotter than where Volvo OE has it's air duct and there is a fast stream of air where it impacts the hood.
Ground effects on any racing or high performance car will have a swift volume of air close to the ground go under and undisturbed so the air will be warm. In order to get gains you need cooler, less turbulent (less bends and smooth passages) and forced dense air. Port and polishing is one example of less turbulent air and the Turbo is forcing more air than any air going into the ducts at speed so Volvo's set up is already optimum for any potential gain from additional dollars spent to increased performance.
"Cool air intake a possible way to gain horses?" Yes, but not with any setup we can make. Think Turbo (Cooler and Denser).
Real world gains while being part of regular maintenance? Read Page 1 and 2 and call your local Porsche or Ferrari Tuner to see if you can get a couple here and there.

Well im worried that the one on ipd. won't fit on my car specifically. The way ts designed, it would be a really tight squeeze and the fuse box sits next to and a little above the filer and i don't think it would fit correctly

So if an intake wouldn't do me any good then what would? And nothing substantial right now. Just here and there parts?

Have all of you forgotten 1) Sconeman's intake tube and 2) an FMIC?
I realize an FMIC might be a little out there for you, but it helps.
The sconeman tube $150, and everyone who gets it says they have amazing (not really, but all of them report SOMETHING, which is good considering the butt dyno
gains.

A FMIC is a lot of money/effort with no gain whatsoever.
The turbo intake tube is nice but it won't make any difference on a stock motor/turbo and really only makes a marginal difference (I'm probably being generous since I spent my money on one) on a tuned motor.
He's better off just dropping the $400 or so on an ARD tune.

True you are, but he is wondering about intake, so i tell him about intake.
Lucky (ARD) is the best tuner for Volvo's right now. He is cheap, but has the best tunes. It's like a constant 80% off sale on the best tune. Find the one you want, and grab it. (Note that although its recommended, you actually dont need to adjust cam timing, so dont let that throw you off!)

i see better gas malage and see a little diff in hp and throttle response, sounds good for sure..good product.
1995 850t turbo,siver with black leahter interior (perfect),, 118000 miles .second owner.9 out of a 10...!
I'm now thinking about putting the stock airbox back in. These engines generate a lot of heat and the cone filter is hot to the touch after driving for a while, which isn't good.
I don't think the stock airbox is very restrictive to begin with.
Has anyone heard of using spray-on radiant barrier to cover the airbox and inlet tube?
