1996 960 cutting out

Is it possible that this issue will throw a code p0172? My 97 960 has a very similar issue as well as the p0172 code that I can't get rid off. Already replaced vacuum lines, o2 sensor and the ect sensor. I've also cleaned the maf sensor and run several doses of fuel treatment. Motor seldom starts on the first try when cold, sometimes will try and stall while idling, and sometimes wants to stall out when accelerating (usually when I'm trying to pull out in traffic!). I thought the two problems were unrelated, but now I'm beginning to wonder... any thoughts?

I am assuming that you are erasing the code and it returns.

Code P0172 equates to Volvo code EFI 231 or EFI 232 which both relate to the long term fuel trim. They are more likely to be caused by a sensor than by a dirty throttle body. The first attachment describes the cause of the code and the second is a DIY way of testing some of the sensors. I have omitted the check where you need a breakout box.

The throttle body is usually one of the items that only gets looked at when something goes wrong. I make a point of cleaning mine every two or so years as it can not harm it and it does make things run much more sweetly.
