Slow boost production but boost isn't low

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

update 2:

removed hose from Waste gate actuator and the car is able to produce boost nice and fast, so thats a good sign i suppose.

The waste gate actuator is there to keep you from over-revving / destroying your turbocharger and/or engine. You need to re-connect it.

Now, about this hissing...I have a 1996 850 Turbo wagon. I experienced the same issues some time ago. It turned out to be multiple problems: 1) The rubber induction (air) hoses were all original and were collapsing at WOT from idle 2) I found 2 holes in the BOTTOM of 2 hoses where you cannot readily inspect them; they looked fine on top. After removing all the hoses, I was shocked to see that the walls had thinned, were gooey, and actually had holes in them.

To build boost faster, you can add a manual boost controller, but you need to be careful in using it. This YOU TUBE video is where I got my "plans": *** NOTE: YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THIS DEVICE MAY CAUSE TO YOUR ENGINE ***

I built one from parts I bought from ACE Hardware for about $12.00 and I installed a bypass valve (that disables the boost controller) that I hid and turn on when my kids drive the car (hehehe). I set mine to allow pressure to flow through at 18 lbs. Use a 5/16" diameter ball and spring, not 1/4"...it seals much better! My entire engine setup is completely stock aside from the controller. After 6 months, I have had no problems, fuel economy is the same, but the fun factor went way up! Boost comes on strong at about 15-20 mph...before that, it is mediocre at best.

Good Luck!

ok well i have an ard green tune and a few other mods, the tune is set for 17 psi, will this still make a difference in boost generation speeds?
