The "S" position is not a Turbo Boost, but rather allows the car to accelerate more aggressively via transmission shift management. It should always be used in hilly terrain, pulling a trailer, heavily loaded, etc. to let the engine operate more effectively in its 'power band'. It ends up in the same final ratio gearing once you are up to speed.
I have friends who use the "S" position all the time, as it makes the car a much more spirited driver...as with all things, it seems...'you play /you pay'..gas mileage will suffer some, but that really depends more your driving habits than just that switch.
I say try it, you'll like it!
How long do 2.4 turbos last?
