If it is dropping into neutral that is what mine was doing.
I don't know much of the inner workings of our transmissions but from my understanding it might have been the pump on the transmission itself. As the fluid heats up it thins out, lowering the pressure. I'm going far back in my memory now, but IIRC there is a solenoid in the transmission that controls the pressure output, but it is not replaceable.
If you can source a transmission the replacement of it is fairly straight forward and can be done in a home garage in a weekend. I'm currently working on a writeup.

Also wanted to say you might be able to buy time by buying an aftermarket transmission/oil cooler. You route the tranny fluid thru it after the radiator cooler to cool it down further. It does a much more effective job - and might give you some time.
