The beginning of the CEL on a bumpy, dusty road may be a slightly unseated TCM (trans control module) Perhaps remove the negative battery terminal and reseat the module (while you're there you may as well reseat the ECM) which are both located in that strange black box near the overflow bottle.
Try this before throwing parts at it.

Ok
I removed and cleaned the TCM and EDU. Still holds 1st too long and gives 232.
I am considering an ATF flush. I have read that it can make transmission problems worse on older cars. Mine is a non-turbo with 140,000 miles.
Does anyone know if it is better to follow the new modified flush method on this site and change all the ATF at once or to drain and fill gradually over many miles so as to change out the ATF a little at a time?

If you have no idea when it was last changed, then drain-and-fill!

+1 Absolutely change the fluid!! Drain & fill's a very safe way to go.

If you can get a complete trans and torconverter flush and filter replacement. Did this to wifes car and after words the crappy Dodge trans worked great. Also check the bands to see if any need adjustment. As for the code 223, I can not help ya.
1993 850 GLT 300,000 miles plus and still going.

Have done the drain and fill and and driven across australia. Seems to run fine although occationally it goes in to limp mode for a short while. The orange arrow would probably be flashing if it didnt have a blown globe. The winter button does not work. I just checked the codes and I get 313, 232 and 322 from A1 port.
Not sure what else to try.
