Not interested in racks, just passing along the information.

I just got the rails that run front to back. Now I need the crossbars and can't seem to find them anywhere. Does Volvo make these cross bars? or should I just get Thule ones? I use them mostly for surfing so just regular cross bars are good, I don't need ones for a bike or anything.

Volvo probably still makes the crossbars, but expensive, I'm sure. I found mine from a part out car. They fit inside your new rails, and therefore have a small surface area, but would work for one, maybe two surfboards. I also have the Yakima racks that clamp to the rails and extend past the rails for the two kayaks I carry. Keep looking and some will show up.

do a search on craigs list, ebay etc. they are not that big or heavy and should not cost that much to ship.
+1 on dealer cost, i am sure they are off the charts high. I bought my side rails at my local pick and pull for $25 and bought crossbars in perfect shape off Craigs list for $50

good luck

Mark

They are getting hard to find, but keep looking on ebay, etc. it took me several months to find my oem crossbars. One note - if you buy new OEM crossbars, do not buy the 2000 crossbars. The 2000 v70s in Europe were the gen2 models while they were still the gen1 models here in the US. So crossbars in a Volvo box labeled to fit a 2000 model year will not fit. But if they were taken off a 2000 year car in the US they will fit your car.
2011 XC70 T6 - current
2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Q2 - Totaled in 2022. Not my fault.
2011 XC60 - sold
2000 V70XC - given to a friend, wish I still had it.

Just checked Charlotte N.C. craig's list for 8-26-13 and text'd the guy about a set that looks like it is on the third photo. He's said 150, which I said was a little beyond my budget. He returned with"what are you thinking". Check it out as I am not interested in them, but if I can help out on this end, just let me know. See if this take you there. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/ptd/4026838513.html

He just dropped them to $50.00, after I told him I had just purchased a set for that for my 06, which I did. Not a bad price, depending on condition.

$50-$60 is the going rate for GEN 1 rails,
$75-$125 seems to be the rate for P2 rails

I JUST gave a set including cut strips to my mechanic
