okay - I think I would move to the no-start condition and determine if it is spark or fuel problem. Check fuel pressure at the rail first - or listen for the fuel pump turning on?

Here is what I did today.... I decided to run the car without the MAF connected...it started and ran fine for over 20min and did not shut off. I shut it off and started it again.. it ran for another 20 min with no problems.. then while it was running I connected the MAF harness..it shut right off!!
Could it be a bad MAF and the ECU senses a problem and shuts the engine...

YUP.. New MAF did the trick..what a strange problem...

This thread describes is standard symptoms and diagnosis method for a bad MAF, everything makes sense. Nice job on the repair. If the new MAF is not a Bosch then be prepared for more funny business down the road, the non-Bosch ones rarely work properly in an 850.
