Re: Stripped tension pulley torx - Bay Area
Spray the nut with brake clean to clean out any gunk and avoid cheap Chinese torx bits which aren't hardened properly and loose their edge

Dos,
sorry about the delayed response. It is a double wall construction so the magnet trick might not work. I thinks I leveled a a piece of wood across top of fender and measured down. Then drilled a small pilot hole. Don't really remember unfortunately. Used a 1.5 inch hole saw. Could've been smaller but 1.5" gave me some room if hole wasn't perfectly aligned. I found this method pretty much assured that I could get the stripped torx out.

I like it. You came up with a good fallback position if things go wrong. Thanks for the reply!

You probably have to put a hole in the wheel liner so you can get a tool straight into the stripped fastener like the photos above.

I like the idea of laying a 2x4 or a bar across the fenders and measuring the distance. Then drill a very small hole where you think it should be and adjust accordingly. Could shine a flashlight through the pilot hole and see if the light lands where you need.

.
Is it still possible to wedge a piece of wood against the wrench and chassis to keep it from slipping and remove?

it's already slipped. i'll. try to use torx extractor with 90 degree adapter. What do you think about this solution?

Don't think there is enough room? Perhaps the next size up Torx in standard. Pound in using a wedged piece of wood sandwich between the frame and pulley.
