Thank you all. Unfortunately, I really seem to have the Volvo bug now and for the wagon. I guess I'll just try to be careful and either buy cheap from an individual or pay a bit more and do a reputable dealer. My wife said she'd be more than happy to use the 98 V70 we have now, so this opens up the manual transmission route for me. Let the games begin :-)

I am six years into my '03 V70 base. I purchased with 60k and now have 195k. Items other than normal wear and tear (brakes, tires, shocks, timing belt...) that I replaced was the cat at around 90k and the pcv at around 130k. I didn't realize at the time how pcv/firebox worked on the Volvo. Also just replaced the turn signal stalk. For some reason high beams would come on after using directional. Found one on ebay for $40.

Love the car, great on gas. Close to 30mpg on highway. Average 24-26 in town hilly area. Hope to hold on to this one until I can get a V60 demo or used.
