Replace the '93 ECC unit. They have a flaw that burns up a couple capacitors internally. Search some threads that do explain that here.

The newer versions are more "solid state" so to speak.

I had learned that early, and if you are even trying to read the codes from the OBD I blinker under the hood, it will give you extraneous codes while trying to read the toasted unit.

After I installed a known good unit in my '93 sedan, I was able to also read a simple code for a bad passengers side temperature sensor.

Replaced the sensor, checked the codes, 1-1-1 and no blinking lights on that car since.

I have a different problem with my '96 ECC unit as a result of creative wiring done by the last owner. Yet to be determined.

Thanks Ben, I had a friend pick up two ECC units at a Pic n Pull in San Antonio. I should have them in hand next week end. Hopefully one of them is the "newer" version and will work for me. I'll post back after I get them and see if one of them works.

Received two used ECC units and have not yet installed either. Before I try, one of the units has yellow plugs in the back with the following numbers: 6847529 W305K. The other has green plugs and the number is 9134820 W448K. My original unit has green plugs and is number 6847529 W315K.

I am assuming the higher number unit is the newer model but that's just an assumption.

Does anyone know if the plug color has any significance? Is there any risk using the yellow plug unit when my original came with green plugs?

To continue this thread, I installed the ECC unit with the green plug and cleared the codes. The good news is that no codes have returned. The blower speed is manually adjustable but still seems slower at maximum than before. To complicate the issue, the ABS lite is not illuminated. Don't know where that came from out of the blue. Its reading code 444 "No power supply to valves in hydraulic unit" from port A3. I am beginning to wonder if a possible common cause to these seemingly unrelated systems is the electrical portion of the ignition switch? Any experience with diagnosing this as a possible root cause?
