You still have an ETM in your car (as that’s just an abbreviation for “Electronic Throttle Module”), but the difference is that yours is not from the problematic batch that affected 2001-2002 model cars. However, despite not being from that problematic series, you might still benefit from cleaning it as alron400 suggested.maddog2020 wrote:Probably all true, but my car doesn't have an ETM. 2003 (maybe 2002) and later models have an updated Throttle Body. That said I still think it might be my throttle body failing.
The hesitation you describe seems to be happening under high load (accelerating up to the point of a downshift on the highway). I don’t know if you’ve already done so, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check your plugs and coils, as any defects in the ignition system tend to first appear under high load situations.
The U0073 code you say you’re finding is pretty generic—before you go and replace all these parts and sensors just by stabbing in the dark, I think it would be worth it to hook your car up to a VIDA/DICE unit to read the Volvo specific codes. That might lead you to a more specific diagnosis about what parts should be replaced and save you money in the end.
