Re: 98 s70 gtl Car cranks but wont start

Post by Caliracergirl »

hi everyone thanks for the replys. so heres he update i changed out my camshaft positon sensor and that got the car to start right up. However my car is making a freaky rattling noise that its never made before. it sounds like a bolt flying and bouncing around. but theres no loosebolts or nuts aywhere what do you think it could be? in this vehicle i changed the fuel pump relay the fuel filter spark plugs and now camshaft postion sensor. A friend of mine said maybe its a part of the screw that came off the cam sensor but that wouldnt make sense at all or that it could be someting loose inside the rod which also wouldnt make sense considering that before the car stopped running it wasnt maing a single noise it was running like a champ. is there anyway that i could have put on the camshaft position sensor wrong?Any insight is very much appreciated.

There is a bolt under the cam position sensor that holds on a metal plate, did you monkey with that at all? Because when that is loose the engine can make a really nasty, intermittent grinding sound. Or if it was loose in the first place it could have caused trouble for your CPS. I would pull the CPS and have a look just to be sure.

Shoot a video and post....try to isolate where the sound is coming from and also report if its rpm dependent...

I've driven a 98 t5 for 3 years daily, literally. It's always been sluggish till you floor it. Like timing retarded, no codes for years several times. I recently quit driving it letting it sit for a few days at a time. Drove around town all day lots of idling with air on. Extremely hot out. It was losing slightly more than normal power on the way home and it wouldn't start after a few minutes. No spark. Tapped camshaft position sensor and it ran well. Test again with no start. Tapped again first hit then immediately off. Then began turning over Like a tooth off. I unplugged the cps and the thing was so brittle it crumbled. I ordered a coil, crank sensor and the camshaft position sensor. Doing it first then the rest keep oem for spares. No I couldn't Test it. 18 yr old.....meter lost. It recently started pegging gauges too Like 4 days before twice and would fix itself. I was playing with the vacuum lines down there about 2 weeks ago and I remember moving that plugs bracket around a bit and I have a hunch that did it. I'll update around the 15th.
