As explained, the heater core is leaking. In your case, it is leaking bad. You can purchase a new core for $40 shipped off eBay. If you run low on coolant, the car will overheat and blow the motor (head gasket). You should park the car until you fix it. It is a 30 minute job.

Again, it is NOT good playing coolant roulette. You can bypass it in 10 minutes and keep driving forever.

This video will show you how to disconnect the heater hoses in the event you decide to bypass it for now.

Oh, I forgot to add that I believe that people playing coolant roulette with heater cores is the #1 reason these cars show up in junk yards. About 1/2 of the Volvos in the junk yard have no visible damage and a floor full of coolant.

Couple things...

Many people like the cheap made-in Estonia heater core on ebay, about $40. Just wash it in the dishwasher before using it. No need to use dealer stuff.

If you really need the car then search forum for heater bypass or clamp the heater hoses so you can drive while waiting for the heater core to arrive.

At this age, some people also bypass the firewall coupler (search for photos by "erikv11" using 5/8-inch heater hose): Heater Core ---> cut metal pipes ---> heater hose running through firewall ---> engine.

DatVolvoChick wrote:You were right I pulled back my carpet and there was coolant there. Don't really have time to repair the heating core until Saturday / Sunday so I got some sealant to put in for now to see if it'll work. I just need it to work til Saturday then I can actually fix it. Thanks for your help c:
Sealant is the WORST thing you can do for your coolant system. It clogs the radiator, lower the radiator performance and it takes almost forever to flush it out of your coolant system. Those things should be banned.
