I don't think anyone here picks up parts recommendations based on name, but on experience.
Funny you should mention spark plugs, because thats another area where experience here shows non-turbo cars can use almost any name brand, but turbos won't run well with non-OEM.

lol...I am not trying to argue or anything..just trying to learn from others..
but on the spark plug thing I have heard on here or one of the other forums how some people automatically run volvo plugs because of the name on the plug.
I have never run the volvo brand plugs and my turbo t5 has always run fine except till recent where the etm light is coming on. but it still runs fine. matter of fact this morning I thought I was in wrong car as it hauled ass much faster than I was expecting in order to pass a car...
I think I have NGK in it now

Plug wires are another one where vast accumulated experience on this site suggests Bougicord is really the way to go.

I don't know if they were different. The first one wasn't around long enough to look at, but the second one is laying in the seat and should go back today.gentlejax wrote:hey thanks for the reply...thats food for thought. so two of the Oreilly ones were different?

I would dispute this statement. I run NGK Iridium plug in my Volvo with turbo, zero issues whatsoever.abscate wrote:...Funny you should mention spark plugs, because thats another area where experience here shows non-turbo cars can use almost any name brand, but turbos won't run well with non-OEM.

One remanufactured MAF was all it took to convince me--waste of money. The engine idle was always hunting and P0102 code would return immediately after clearing. Did the research and installed a genuine Bosch (verifiable seal on the box) which smoothed out the idle and the P0102 cleared itself on startup.

This is a warning sign, your car may be over boosting. That IS very bad for a motor and can damage rods, etc. Do some research on "turbo over boosting" now before it's to late.gentlejax wrote:…. matter of fact this morning I thought I was in wrong car as it hauled ass much faster than I was expecting in order to pass a car...

Now back to the MAF, come on GentleJax, you have been around a while. You have read and posted enough threads to know that there is NO OTHER recommended MAF's out there. It's Bosch or bust, all others are hit or miss, mostly miss. As for me springing for a new $195 Bosch MAF, as my initial post suggest, the jy is full of newish Bosch MAF's and I have harvested several of them over the past year. Most of the P80 cars share the same exact one so they are easier to find than not.
Also, I doubt you will find anyone that is driving one of these P80 cars with "plenty of money". Most of us are in the same boat, that's why we drive an 18 year old car and act proud of it.

dont know but I will check into that. I have been really driving it like a granny lately since the ets light came on..so it may just be im not used to the car and forgot how quick it takes off when its at low speed.
