I just installed one of the Swedish Car Parts cores today. The fit and quality seemed very good. Leakage on the old core was minimal, but just trying to prevent a major headache that might be looming. Also changed the firewall coupler because the mileage was over 200K, but it seemed in quite good shape. It didn't seem brittle or anything. Now with all new hoses, radiator, over-flow tank, thermostat, and temp sensor-- I feel confident for the sprint to 300k :)

Use some soap (dishwasher type) with that hot water. Im pretty sure its an oily residue that stinks on these from past reports, and soap will help remove it.

+1
I plugged the inlet/outlet with corks and sloshed mine in a plastic tub with hot water and dishwasher soap--rinsed with garden hose. No odor on initial use. No leaks.

I had bought the Swedish Auto parts heater core. it has been in for a month and a half now and the smell is completely gone. Any plastic tanked, heater that is newly introduced to running temperature will temper and bleed some petroleum distillate. The stink and duration may differ.

I was in a rush, and did not wash or flush it at all.

Cycle between Rec. in the first couple weeks on the ECC, or manual control to help with odor evacuation.

Looks to be quality.

I notated at the end of this page in my maintenance log.
It is a long page, but it is there.

I have confidence in this unit. I looked it over well and it appears to be quality. Have not heard of a failure.
