Hard to say how to determine that immob. works, other than secondary effects (fuel pp. working, etc.). The output signal going to cem contains key info to be compared to stored info. Best we can do is make sure it gets power and ground and contacts are clean. Hopefully someone else has better news...

I was looking at another diagram, this time for the Low Speed CAN Communication (diagram attached in PDF format). Coming out of the CEM, there are various modules, such as PDM/DDM (passenger/driver door module - i.e.: door lock and window controls), DIM (Driver Information Module - i.e. dashboard), PSM (power seat module), OBD (OBD connector). All these modules are not working, and they are all connected to the CEM (some I can only test if the car is running, like the CCM (climate control module), others like the AUM - audio module - have direct power from the battery, so not a game changer).

As indicated before, the OBD should have a voltage greater than 0.5 Volt between pins 3 and 11, and I have zero.

Since all these modules go through the CEM, and they are all not working when the key is in position 0,I, II, III; would this be conclusive that the CEM is not working properly?

I have my s60 in the garage for headlight rejuv and alarm battery change. I'll try duplicating your cheks on obd connector for voltage and ohms. I agree that one should see some volts/ohms at connector.

i had a 1998 v70 glt that acted the same (quitting), except it would eventually start and after sitting for a while- very perplexing.

found it was the wiring harness under the plastic air intake at the radiator support. wire was chaffed and barely connecting. may want to look at that location

On CAN network subject... since all modules are daisy chained together any one that goes down (input shorted out or leaky) will take down the network. I'd try measuring at the CEM to determine condition. Zero ohms reading is open circuit of course. Not quite sure how OBD port factors into this, since it wires straight into CEM.

Measured my OBD2 port for hi/lo can, and have 50ohms on both, but no voltage other than some stray mV. Since OBD comes straight from CEM I'd check wiring at CEM.

Thanks for letting me know the results from your measurements at the OBD. I will have to pull my CEM out and check the wiring.

Does anyone know if the CEM is an interchangeable part that I can get from a donor car, or is this one if those "dealer has to program it" kind of part?

Many thanks.

The CEM has all car info such as VIN, etc, and will need some programming to talk to other modules. One option is to have it refurbished by Xemodex or similar if it comes to that.

You need to test resistance between CAN wires directly on CEM or some other module f.e. ECM.
OBD CAN pins are not connected to the cars network in the normal mode. Diagnostic equipment sends periodic command to make them connected to cars network. That is why can hear click while Vida tries to read VIN number of the car. That is relay that connects OBD CAN pins to the car.
What OBD scanner do you use to check codes?
A lot of modules are getting power via relays controlled by CEM.
Have you checked CEM fuses? there is 2 that provides power to the CEM itself.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)
