Have you looked at Gates timing belt kits as they are a well respected name and well priced for the belt and pump.

Why buy Gates, if you can buy the same brands as orignal parts that lasted over 15 years. Make the repair perfect. Good for another 15 years. You will get what you paid for. Find the best price for the best OEM components.

I used AISIN for the pump, Continental for belt etc... Timing belt kit from FCP Euro. It was $300 more expensive. But the price is not always the most important for me. If I know that a certain part lasted 15 years in the car, I am happy to pay more for the same brand/part but brand new. I don't want to spend many hours of research and hard physical work to put an inferior part into it.

Gates may be good. I don't know. You can save some money buying it and experiment how long it will last. Will it last 15 years? There is no proven record. AISIN water pump lasted that long in my car.

I would never ever buy a timing belt other than OEM. How would you know the time interval to replace it? It is not the same belt material. Who knows what that is. These parts are too critical.

Not sure if its the same over your side but in the UK Gates are viewed as OEM for timing belt kits and widely used by volvo users so it wasn't because they are cheap, more because they are good quality and just happens they are well priced.

Of course price isn't the biggest factor as its important to get the best possible part, yet always nice to save a few £££ and get a quality item.

OEM is what Volvo factory used to build the car and what Volvo dealer mechanic would install.

Volvo does not use Gates as OEM. Unless Gates uses AISIN, Continental and others as their suppliers.

If you use Gates it will work fine too. But who knows how long:)

I never said Volvo use Gates as OEM, I said they are viewed as OEM, which I meant as in terms of quality, plus Honda use Gates to make their belts and they are a well respected brand.

Maybe someone else who used Gates for timing belt or water pump will respond. It wouldn't be my choice, but it may be just me.

It was just a suggestion based on a volvo forum in the uk and what other users have used when I was getting views regarding timing belt kits, yet on here they may not be a popular brand so not a big deal, just thought if the OP is going to shop on amazon or not go to a main dealer then Gates would be a good option.

Look at FCP Euro what they sell. I find them to have the best prices for aftermarket parts. They are also nice people to deal with. They ship worldwide. Make sure you have all correct parts. Double check all part numbers with whats needed for your car.

I have Gates tbelt, tens and roller. Don't remember if the tensioner was by Ina. It looked good quality, but who knows how long it will last. I've done some 5000 miles on it. Given the risks, I would make sure the tens is by Ina. And go with a Continental belt next time, although the Gates one looks just fine.

Also have the Beck Arnley thermostat with casing. Again, look well done, but the burping pin was installed at the bottom, not at the top, kinda worrying. After positioning the pin adequately, it works well.

Look at this:
http://www.1aauto.com/volvo-timing-belt ... fgodfTsAZQ

"..Some of the components included in this kit may be sourced by Gates from other high quality suppliers such as Aisin, GMB, Koyo & other OEM suppliers. These parts are subjected to the very same testing and quality standards as all Gates products.."

One needs to find out who the supplier is for every component in the Gates kit. Gates is a big company. They don't make their own parts, at least not all of them. They use third party suppliers. Make sure the suppliers are not from Alibaba:)

INA is German. Im about to put in INA pulley into my car. It feels and rotates well.
