Could be ETM. The only ETM code that will not kill cruise is a 9150 or 9160 with updated software and it has to be a minor variation. There are three statuses for any code read by Vida; a green, an amber and a red. An amber or red will extinguish cruise function.

I think a scan for your Volvo with Vida or at least a Autel EU-702 is in order to be sure, to be sure. ........

OK -- I'll try to arrange a VIDA scan then. Luckily, a near neighbor is my now-retired former mechanic who is a factory-trained Volvo tech. He still has some of his gear.

Here are some highlights of what I know has been done to the car over time from the vehicle history that I obtained:

Ignition antenna ring 7/14/06 60,135 miles
Front 02 sensor replaced '06 c. 60,000 miles
ABS module replaced 10/4/07 65,860 miles
MAF sensor replaced 1/3/08 66,915 miles
Exhaust manifold replaced (broken flex joint) 3/6/08 67,831 miles
Front sway bar links 3/6/08 67, 831 miles
Serpentine belt replaced 10/1/09 79, 331 miles
Timing Belt and water pump replaced 1/20/10 81,818 miles
New Battery 2/23/13
New radiator core at 89,551 miles
New Plugs 2/22/14
Oil change @ 102,435 miles

No evidence of any coil packs ever having been swapped out and no suspension work other than front sway bar links and a tie rod end or two.

The interior door trim panels are fairly well beat, so much so that I am looking for a set of four tan ones. Seats (cloth interior) are beat as well.

At a minimum it needs a PCV service and upper torque mount and, mostly likely an ETM and/or coil packs and some trunk struts. It also may be collecting water in the driver's side tail light assembly. It will get an oil change almost immediately and I'll switch it over to Mobil 1 Hi Mileage 10W30. I can tell it was on dino oil from the cost of the oil changes reflected in the service invoices. The A/C needs work as well.

Tires are relatively new, no name "Miradas" -- they seem to handle OK, but I haven't really pushed them (and won't).

Service was done by a combination of dealership (early on), then independents. From the two front O2 sensor changes within 20,000 miles or so of one another, I'd say the independents didn't have a great handle on Volvos. The O2 sensor code was most likely a vacuum leak of some sort. That having been said, I've probably got a good front sensor for another 80K miles.

Driver side front alloy rim has a crack in it -- a replacement has already been sourced.

Ask was $1,600. I got it for $900.

Steve -- it is black.

I've got the harbor freight AC set Of gauges if you are up for the AC condensor sometime.

I come down to NJ fairly often so let me know.

I guess I can lower myself to work on a non-blue car..I'm in Kharmic debt from free snows/rims as some here know.

Steve -- I might take you up on that, but then I'd have to invite you up to my brother's place in Maine to go sailing and kayaking . . . Plus, everything (and I do mean everything) I know about A/C systems, I learned from reading this site.

I'm also not sure the problem is the condenser. I didn't hear any unusual cycling when I had the defrost on. I suspect the car has what I refer to as "two month A/C" much as my other cars do -- that is, perform a R134a recharge at the beginning of the cooling season and it seems to last about two months before the freon has leaked out. That could be an evaporator leak which means the whole dash board extravaganza. I haven't done it yet to any of my cars and it may need to be done to all three.

I can bring my remote fiber optic eyeball to look at the evap without major disassembly - usually you can see the grease stains from a leak easily, or put the dye in and it will show the green smear of death.

The two month leak is worth fixing from a cost of components perspective- eventually the moisture kills stuff. I learned all my AC stuff here too..btw.

Sailing in Maine - nasty work, but someone has to do it... :-)

PM me your coordinates and Ill keep you up on my travel plans.

Hmmm, so you want to help Evan, because you feel bad about the rims you got for free --- from ME.

I'm not sure about that Karma thing you've got going Steve :D :D :D

As long as we stay clear of compounding Volvo and Karma we should be ok...
