My ECC blinks on start up for 20 seconds but everything is fine!! Do the blinking AC and Recirculation lights really mean something??

Usually means your blower motor is about to go.

By the way, check this out, utvol! Might be helpful:

My thermostat kicked out on me all together recently. Within the past year or so I would occasionally see flashing from the REC & A/C lights when switching on the climate control. Then one day I started up the car and it just didn't work at all. Now when I turn on the climate control, nothing happens and the fore-mentioned lights flash for a about 20-30 seconds.
Is the light diagnostic test appliable to the 95 850turbo models? Any other ideas otherwise?
This is on my list of things for the dealer to take care of right now but I'd much rather repair it myself if I can and save the 9trillion $$$ it would cost.

With the '95 850 you can check your climate control trouble codes with the diagnostic boxes under the hood. You need to download the '95 850 Service Manual located here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/chat/p ... php?t=8018
It will tell you how to do this with very specific steps.
Good luck!

By the way, here is the entire write up on getting DTC's from your ECC/MCC on cars without the diagnostic boxes under the hood:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/634a6b/

Click on the above, it will take you to a page where you'll have to click on the link for using filefactory basic for free. Then that will take you to a second page. Click on the link in the middle of that page to download for free and your download will begin. It's a pdf file. Now, in the file, scroll about 2/3 of the way down and you'll see how to get your trouble codes without a reader.

Problem is, for the life of me, I can't find what each of the codes means. I suspect you'll have to cross-reference them with the B-1 module DTC's on earlier 850's as I suspect they are the same (but not 100%) certain.

The original DTC's from the B-1 module is found in the downloadable '95 850 Service Manual.

Hey, grab me a cup while you're at it!

So... first of all this 850 manual is just outstanding. Granted there are one or two things not included that I would've liked to see, but compared to how spectacular a tool it proved within just the last week - WOW! Thanks a billion again for sharing this tasty morsel!
Anyway... so I retrieved my DTCs, recorded them, cleared, then ran my ECC and retrieved the remaining codes. The only code left was 4-1-1; Passenger Compartment Fan Overcurrent or Seized Fan. Unfortunately, when I referenced back to the service manual it explained how to trouble shoot and generally fix this problem but does not show where the fan is exactly, how to get to it or how to replace it if necessary. Fortunately enough, there are a few illustrations focusing on other parts but sure enough that fan is hiding out in the background. So now that I knew where it was exactly I proceeded to take apart the glove box to get in there. Got all screws out with the trusty hex tool and wah lah... nothing... actually can't get the glove box off. Foiled for the moment...
In the meantime I called the one dealer in the state that I trust and gave him a quick synopsis. He informed me that he drives a 95 854 and has never heard of this DTC code: "try cleaning the temp sensors with a vacuum". Tryed it, and WAH LAH... nothing... actually it didn't do a damn thing except make all the blood vessels in my eyes explode with frustration. Seriously, though, I took a deep breath and excersizing my greatest feet of patience I went back to the drawing board.
Now, after reviewing this whole post again and seeing the forest for the ECC Unit, I really suspect this passenger compartment fan. I'm going to check out these parts links and plan to replace the fan. Would anyone know how to get in there to replace this part? Or any other feedback is always awesome....

BTW... Not to make this book any longer, but I wanted to share the following progress made this week due to that service manual from the Gods... Nothing major, but it cost me $0 and I made $47.51 in emotional earnings from doins thems myselfsss....

1. Diagnosed the ABS and Tracs lights that have been on for a year... definately need a re-built Control Module, but at least I know for sure now!
2. Diagnosed, solved and reset the check engine light that even the crappy stealership couldn't fix and turn off...
3. Got my trunk CD Changer working again - Thank YOU Wiring Diagrams!
Did you know they supposedly don't even make 811s any more?! Can't even get any confoundit parts for the darn thing...
4. Diagnosed and solved the un working power seats... All I have to do now is tear them apart - Yay!

Truly priceless...

That's it for now... Look for chapter 9 coming soon...

Let me see if I can't help you complete your Volvo. The following link is to a file server site where I've uploaded the '95 850 Climate Control R&R (including the fan) from my copy of Vadis, converted to a pdf file.
http://www.filefactory.com/file/867a18/
Once you're there click on the link labled "Download for free with FileFactory Basic" This will take you to a second page where you will scroll down and click on "Click here to begin your download" and your download will begin. Just save it to a easy place to get to on your computer. Within the PDF document there is a section on getting to and taking out the fan...hope it helps.

Next, check out this discussion on repairing your own ABS module. http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/Who-Has- ... 57196.html
Be careful...if you try this you'll need an E5 torx bit (very small and hard to find) to take the module out and a decent soldering iron. If you don't want to do it, you'll need to take it out anyway and send it off to someone like Victor Rocha who will repair it for you for about $150 shipping included. Here is information from Vic's site: http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/Vol ... 70_ABS.htm

Good luck and let us know how you do!

 Hmmm... Fix my own Control Module, you say? Very tempting for sure though Victor sounds like a good bet either way. And at least you save a ton a high octane gas money by doing it through him!

Many thanks for all the help, MadeinJapan! :!:

I'll review my options and consult back to the round table shortly...
